About Attorney Lindsay M. Harris, JD

Sioux Falls Estate Planning Attorney

Lindsay M. Harris is the owner and managing member of Harris Law & Co. She leads our succession planners in protecting every family and business we serve using forward-thinking solutions derived from exceptional experience. Lindsay’s knowledge and dedication shows in her work and resulted in her selection as a 2018, 2019 & 2020 Rising Star from Super Lawyers, a distinction only earned by 2.5% of attorneys in the state. Whether it is creating wills, revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, charitable trusts, special needs trusts, or advanced business plans such as family limited partnerships, limited liability companies, or corporations, Lindsay’s passion is to ensure that every family and business is protected when life changing events occur. Lindsay maintains over 61 hours of continued legal education in the areas of estate and business planning each year. She graduated summa cum laude with her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Spanish from the University of South Dakota and with High Honors from the University of South Dakota School of Law. Outside of the office, Lindsay can be found on the tee box, ski hill, or in front of her art easel. She enjoys spending Saturday mornings having coffee with her grandparents and playing with her nieces and nephews. As community is important to Lindsay, she currently serves many area non-profits by using her legal expertise to serve on their Boards or volunteering her time for service days. Most recently she served as the President for the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and Fund Development Committee for Habitat for Humanity (and yes, they even let her swing a hammer every now and again!). She also serves the Foster Network, Feeding South Dakota, and the Banquet.

Why do you do what you do?

Family is everything to me. I grew up in a big family where my 32 cousins and I would dress up every Christmas in our pajamas and eagerly await Christmas morning, where Thanksgivings were filled with turkey and laughter (…and maybe a few naps), and where my uncles would move my tent into the corn field every fourth of July. I am incredibly fortunate to have grown up in the family I did and to have been raised with the values I still hold true today. But life sometimes throws a few curveballs. My senior year of high school, when most children were planning for their futures and looking at dorm room furniture, I was grieving the loss of my father who unexpectedly passed away. I saw first-hand the grief and chaos that losing a loved one causes. I always thought there had to be a better way. A better way to protect families and businesses when unexpected life events occur. A better way to guide people through the often overly complex legal world. So, I decided to find one. I followed this passion to law school and eventually to founding Harris Law & Co. Growing up with small town values and a big heart drives the purpose and culture of my team. We want to ensure that we are servants to our community, that we continually learn and find ways to better serve others, and that every day we help arm families and businesses with the information they need to better protect themselves and their loved ones from life’s unexpected events.
